  5. This is version 3.0.4 of MandelZot, a free (but not public-domain)
  6. application for exploring the Mandelbrot set and other fractals.
  7.  
  8. The biggest enhancement since version 3.0.2 (June '91) is the addition
  9. of a Lempel-Ziv data compressor.  This compressor can be used to reduce
  10. the size of MandelZot dwell-save files... the data is compressed when
  11. it's saved, and is expanded (losslessly) when the file is opened and
  12. loaded.  Savings of 50% are common, and I've seen a few images which
  13. compressed by 75-90%.  The compression isn't as effective as that in
  14. StuffIt or Compactor, but it's fast and does not require an additional
  15. step.  Compressed-dwell files can be cataloged normally, and can be
  16. used by older versions of MandelZot (which will ignore the compressed
  17. data and recompute the image).

  19. Other tweaks in 3.0.4 include some bug-fixes, and some rearrangements
  20. in the Color Editor to improve compatibility with the Mac LC and IIsi.
